|
The public bike sharing system was common in European countries, more so among the north European countries. The first generation of bike-sharing programs began in Amsterdam in 1965 with White Bikes – ordinary bikes painted white being provided for public use. A user could find a bike and ride to his/her destination and leave it there for the next user. The first generation bike sharing systems relied more on the honesty of the users and the promoters. However, the problem of theft became common and people failed to find a bike when they needed one. In addition to stealing the bikes, the users threw the bikes into canals, leading to the collapse of the bike sharing program... |
